[book is clean and flawless, with no discernible wear; jacket shows just a trace of wrinkling along the bottom edge]. (color photographs, art reproductions) Briefly INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Charlton Heston (as "Chuck") and his wife Lydia, on the title page, this "companion for families" to the Good Book (based on the TV series of the same name) is made Even Better by Heston's "commentary on the Bible's major characters and themes," along with "sidebars on important figures, symbols and events"; also included, for the faithful of short attention span, are a "book-by-book summary of the Bible and a who's who." Macon GA Mercer University Press (c.1987) 0-86554-284-8 / 9780865542846 First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good+ dj Illustrated by (dj design) Margaret Jordan Brown & Alesa Jones Signed by Author
[nice tight copy, faint soiling to cloth; jacket moderately scuffed, no tears]. (Studies in American Biblical Hermeneutics 3) Series INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the half-title page. "The vast and rich scholarship in American biblical hermeneutics has been and, to a large extent, is still overshadowed by the Continental approaches associated with the Heideggerian school. In response to this approach an expressly counter-Continental methodology has grown. [The author] joins the discussion seeking a middle ground between the two schools of thought. He addresses American biblical hermeneutics from a 'philosophical perspective' grounded in the thought of American philosophers C.S. Peirce and Josiah Royce." Signed by Author

6 Kassarjian, Kevork`[aka Lee Kassarjian] Behind the Iron Altar [*SIGNED*]
Philadelphia Olivier, Maney & Co. (c.1950) First Edition Hardcover Very Good in Fair dj Signed by Author
[lightly shelfworn, slight bumping to all corners; jacket well-worn, with paper loss at most corners and along top and bottom edges of front panel, long ragged (but neatly closed) tear in rear panel]. (B&W halftone photographs, maps INSCRIBED fulsomely and SIGNED by the author on the ffep: "Presented to / Mrs. J.W. Kirchoff / In appreciation of her / interest in a progressive and / integrated America and in / admiration of her creative / inclinations. / Lee K. Kassarjian / 2306 Duane St. / L.A. 39 / NO-2-9803 / Los Angeles / May 6, 1953." A memoir of persecution, by an ex-priest of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Los Angeles, who had been booted out, "disgraced and blacklisted for refusing to become a tool in the hands of his superiors" -- who, he claimed, were maneuvering "behind the cloak of righteous American citizenship [to foment] unrest and confusion in the parishes, propagandizing communism among their youths." Although "twice deported upon false testimony," the author perservered, forming (what else?) the Reformed Armenian Apostolic Church, from the pulpit of which he continued to rail against the insidious communism that he believed plagued both his former church and his Armenian homeland, then under Soviet domination. A prefatory note states that "the author has exhibited to the publisher numerous documents, letters, and newspaper clippings [which] substantiate and prove his accusations to be true in every detail. These documents have been safely stored away to prevent their falling into the hands of the author's antagonists." (And where are they today, I wonder?) Laid in to this copy of the book, by the way, is a one-page flyer about Dr. Kassarjian and a list of the many talks and lectures he was ready to deliver under the auspices of something called the Institute of Mental Health. Three Popes and the Jews, Lapide, Pinchas E.
7 Lapide, Pinchas E. Three Popes and the Jews
New York Hawthorn Books, Inc. 1967 NO First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good dj
[nice clean book, light shelfwear to heel of spine, no other significant wear; jacket has a tiny chip at top left-hand corner of front panel, a couple of itty-bitty nicks at top of rear panel]. (B&W photographs) "An Israeli diplomat's startling disclosures about papal-Judaic relations since the start of World War II and his shocking appraisal of anti-Semitism in Christian history." The book made news at the time of its initial publication for its defense of Pope Pius XII, whose "quiet wartime efforts saved many more Jews from death under Hitler than is generally believed." The author also goes to some lengths to establish, "in no uncertain terms, the Church's historically deplorable attitude [towards Jews] until the time of Pius XI," while also detailing the great improvement on that front from World War II onwards, culminating in a tribute to Pope John XXIII, who "more than all other popes, worked to erase the shameful Catholic position on the Jewish question."

[top edge a tiny bit soiled; jacket shows mild handling wear, minimal surface scratching]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author ("world travelled journalist, author, preacher and publicist") in 1989. [The confusion about the publication date comes because there is no actual date of publication on the book itself, although the copyright page states "First Printing, January 1983 / Jerusalem under the title of A World In A Country." I found no trace of that title on-line.] Back of jacket blurb states in part that "James McWhirter came to prominence in the white heat of a great Evangelical revival which took place between the wars during which time he participated in revival campaigns in the largest auditoriums in Britain, Europe and the United States of America. he came to believe that no denomination could claim to have An exclusive on God and that if we were All One in Christ we should be seen to be one in Christ. HE SOUGHT TO SWEEP AWAY THE BARRIERS WHICH SEPARATED HIM FROM OTHER CHRISTIANS AND HE DID -- WITH ASTOUNDING RESULTS!" Signed by Author
