[nice clean copy, only minimal edgewear to covers]. Trade PB (B&W and color photographs) Published in conjunction with an exhibition held at the Brooklyn Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, this represents an early attempt to "separat[e] folk sculpture from folk art" and to consider it as an artistic/cultural phenomenon in its own right. The director of the Brooklyn Museum, in his Foreword, acknowledges that the exhibition was "an 'undefinitive' show [that] raises more questions than it answers," dedicated as it was to "pushing through to a new understanding of folk sculpture." Essays and other features are: "Folk Sculpture without Folk," by Daniel Robbins; "A Sorting Process: The artist as collector," a conversation between one of the Brooklyn Museum's curators and sculptor Michael D. Hall; "American Folk Sculpture: Some considerations of its ethnic heritage," by Michael Kan. Also includes: "Catalog of the Exhibition," listing 98 items; Selected Bibliography.
