By 1937, the school's notable alumni already included Valentine Davies (author of "Miracle on 34th Street"), Morris Ernst (co-founder of the ACLU), Leland Hayward (agent and producer), Rockwell Kent (illustrator), Arthur Hays Sulzberger (New York Times publisher), Paul Francis Webster (songwriter), and William Carlos Williams (poet).
