1 Jackson, Ada In England Now: A Latter-Day Sampler
New York The Macmillan Company 1948 NO First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good dj Illustrated by (dj design) Charlotte Young
(price-clipped, with new price stamped on front jacket flap) [nice clean copy, minor wear at corners, previous owner's signature on front pastedown; jacket a bit edgeworn, tiny tears and minor paper loss at a couple of corners, slight scarring from label removal at top of front flap]. A "dramatic poem on the common lot of common men in England's worst hour since the war. [The author] paints with great honesty and insight, and in memorable images, the England of endless queues of patient housewives, of eked-out ration coupons, and of courageous, humorous acceptance of grim necessity. It is an England were mousetraps molder on the wall and even the spider starves, where the 'fretful and egg-laden moth' finds only the empty wardrobe and the empty press."
