The author, herself a product of an upstate New York town, was better known as a mystery/suspense novelist under the pseudonym of "Vin Packer," and somewhat later as award-winning young adult fiction writer "M.E. Kerr." (She used a few other pseudonyms as well, for other genres/fields.) This was her second book (and first novel) to be published under her own name (which is actually Marijane Meaker).
