New York Henry Holt and Company [1928] NO 1st U.S. edition (presumed) Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good dj 
[nice copy with minor shelfwear to bottom edge, slight bump to bottom front corner, one-time owner's name and address in ink at top corner of title page; jacket has a small piece missing at the top front hinge, a couple of other tiny closed tears, slight darkening to spine panel, minor wrinkling at top edge of rear panel]. (8 B&W plates) An accounting of "some of the most hazardous and thrilling escapes and attempts at escape" ever recorded, with chapters devoted to John Nevison, Jack Sheppard, David Haggart, Louis Cartouche, Louis Napoleon (Napoleon III), George Kelly (who escaped from the Tower of London, no less), and Frederick Trenck -- the last-named tagged by the author as "the arch-escaper of all history." [Originally published in England by Philip Allan & Co. Ltd. (the author) in 1927; this edition is undated, but was reviewed in the Los Angeles Times in April 1928.]
