1 Min, Anchee Becoming Madame Mao [*SIGNED*]
Boston/New York Houghton Mifflin Company 2000 0-618-00407-6 / 9780618004072 First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dj Illustrated by (dj design) Michaela Sullivan Signed by Author
[very light dampstain surrounding base of spine, with resultant fading to cloth at that point, but interior of book unaffected, otherwise no significant wear; jacket appears slightly faded at spine, minor rubbing to rear panel, slight wrinkle at top of front panel; all in all still an attractive copy]. SIGNED boldly by the author on the title page. The author "uses the facts of history and her lush, penetrating psychological imagination to take us beyond the myth of the person who so greatly influenced an entire generation of Chinese. The result is a complex portrait of a woman who railed against the confines of her culture, whose deep-seated insecurities propelled her to reinvent herself constantly, and whose ambition was matched only by her ferocious, never-to-be-fulfilled need to be loved." Signed by Author

[nice clean book with no discernible wear, but with the front hinge just barely starting to split at the bottom; jacket shows slight handling wear, minor scuffing to rear panel]. SIGNED by the author on the half-title page; below her signature is what appears to be an undecipherable scrawl, although perhaps to the trained eye it means something. "The story of a young woman's emotional and political education in the last year's of Mao's China." Signed by Author
