1 Jacobs, Arthur N. The Tinhorn
Minneapolis Sexton Press (c.1927) NO Second Edition Hardcover Very Good+
(no dust jacket) [solid copy, a bit of wear at edges/extremities, rear corners slightly bumped, small bookseller's stamp on front pastedown]. "A novel depicting American political life," which according to the author's introduction "is intended to be not so much a novel as an expose of politics. The story is built around characters that are typical to American political life. These characters are not snatched out of the air. They have been evolved in a political atmosphere that is purely American. The circumstances around which the plot of this story is woven are based upon real facts." The author says he "has given the best years of his life to politics -- or to be more exact, to politicians -- [and] with bitter experience comes the conviction that the patriot who enters public life to give honorable service is rarely understood by the mob which has not yet been able to differentiate between buncombe and sincerity." Nothing much has changed, sounds like.
