1 Bauer, Charles J. Tad's Scrapbook - Lincoln's Boy; 200 cartoons of his father's day; Comments and Poems, including Alice in Wonderland! [*SIGNED*]
Silver Spring MD Silver Spring Press (c.1978) 1st Edition (limited/numbered) Softcover Good+ Signed by Author
[moderate external soiling and shelfwear, covers a bit scuffed]. (cartoons, B&W photographs) INSCRIBED to a relative and SIGNED by the author, opposite the dedication page; also laid in is a postcard from the author to the inscribee (the postcard is a portrait of Abraham Lincoln). A fascinating collection of Civil War-era editorial cartoons, primarily depicting Abraham Lincoln -- not an actual reproduction of his son Tad's scrapbook ("We do not have that precious bit of Lincolniana"), but rather a creative re-imagining of what it might have been like, based on historical accounts of Tad's interest in caricatures of his father. The author's commentary accompanies the cartoons, which are all meticulously sourced and presented in chronological order. The last section of the book is a rather severely abridged version of Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' with reproductions of some of the original John Tenniel illustrations. The photo on the cover, by the way, is of the author's own son. [The title page states this to be copy #273 of an edition of 2,000.] Signed by Author
