Cain, James M. The Enchanted Isle New York The Mysterious Press 1985 0892961430 / 9780892961436 First Edition Hardcover Fine in Near Fine dj [vertical wrinkle up the center of the jacket's rear panel (apparently a production flaw)]. First publication (posthumously) of a novel that was finished by the author -- who, rather curiously, assumes the first-person narrative voice of a sixteen-year-old girl -- in the late 1960's, but rejected by his publishers (as was "Cloud Nine," previously issued by The Mysterious Press). Also known at some point in its genesis as "The Mink Coat." Price:

Knopf 1948 4th printing Hardcover Good (no dust jacket) [solid reading copy, bottom corners lightly bumped, slight moisture-rippling of pages, somewhat more pronounced in latter half of book]. Novel about a young man who is wrongly accused of seducing a 12-year-old girl, and takes it on the lam from Maryland to California, where he eventually becomes an oil company executive. The book, which has been called Cain's most autobiographical, was not well received by either critics or the book-buying public. Price:
