Ferber, Edna Giant [*SIGNED*] Garden City NY Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1952 NO First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Fair dj Illustrated by (dj design) Fred McCarroll Signed by Author [a solid clean copy, slight bumping to bottom corners but no other significant wear; the jacket's a mess, though -- heavily worn, split and tape-mended along front hinge, nearly split along front flap foldover, substantial paper loss at spine extremities, etc.]. INSCRIBED, SIGNED and DATED by the author on the half-title page: "Dear Jo, I hope / you (and Texas) / won't mind my / saying that I / love you. / Edna. / New York, September 1952" (the month of publication). Ferb's Great Big Book about Texas and Texans, roundly criticized by many of the latter (one Houston book reviewer called it "the most gargantuan hunk of monsterous, ill informed, hokum-laden hocus-pocus ever turned out about Texas"), and one of your better examples of how a pretty dreadful book enjoys a pretty healthy afterlife just because somebody makes a pretty good movie out of it, as George Stevens did with this one. Signed by Author Price:

Ferber, Edna Saratoga Trunk Garden City NY Doubleday, Doran & Company , Inc. 1941 NO First Edition Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good- dj [solid copy, minor shelfwear, some discoloration to endpapers; jacket presentable, worn at edges and extremities, minor chipping at spine ends, a couple of tiny closed tears, light dampstain in middle of spine]. Epic novel of New Orleans in the 1880s, focusing on the romance between Clint Maroon, "to become rich, fabulous, the greatest railroader America had ever known," and Clio Dulaine, "the daughter of a New Orleans aristocrat and his French mistress, [who] grew up in Paris, brooding over the wrongs done her mother, and returned to New Orleans as a young woman to avenge them." The background is that of "the railroad builders, the men who flung across the land the roads of steel which united it, and toward that end were careless of the means they used." The movie version (shot in 1943 but not released until 1945) starred Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman (the noted French-Creole actress) and, frankly, stank. (The copyright page of this edition states "First Edition, after the printing of a limited edition of five hundred and sixty-two copies.") Price:
