Mass Market PB Uncommon "nonfiction novel" about an 18-year-old transgender wannabe who went to Tijuana in the early 1970s for a sex-change operation but wound up sentenced to six months in the La Mesa Penitentiary instead, where s/he endured all manner of brutalization, sexual and otherwise. The author, who met Zulma (née Miguel) while visiting a friend who was incarcerated in the same prison, tells her story in the first person -- "from the lips of the boy/woman who lived it."
