Tunney, Gene A Man Must Fight Boston/New York Houghton Mifflin Company 1932 First Edition Hardcover Very Good in Good dj Illustrated by (dj photo) Robert H. Davis [solid copy, some minor white staining to front cover (black cloth), light bumping at several corners, a bit of shelfwear to bottom edge, light soiling to top page edges; jacket internally dampstained, with bleed-through most noticeable at spine (which is also faded) and rear flap, general edgewear, a bit of paper loss at both ends of spine]. (B&W photographs) Memoir by the fighter who had only one defeat in his entire career (to a fighter he subsequently whupped four times, just for a good measure of revenge). After famously defending his title twice against Jack Dempsey (in 1926 and again in 1927, the latter the infamous "Long Count" bout), he fought only once more before retiring from the ring in 1928. Tunney had served with the U.S. Marines in World War I, and at the height of his fame in the mid-1920s starred in a movie serial called, amazingly enough, "The Fighting Marine." Price:
