Four of the five pieces presented here are reprints (including two Dave Brandstetter stories, "Election Day" and "Surf," and the first Hack Bohannon story, "The Tango Bear"); the fourth is "The Anderson Boy," an Edgar Award-nominated psychological suspense story set in Wisconsin. Completing the volume is the first appearance of the novella "Willow's Money."

Another in the Dave Brandstetter series, "set against vivid Southern California backgrounds of expensive seaside suburbs and snowy mountain camps, shacky desert towns and wilderness canyons," as the gay insurance investigator looks into the case of a disbarred lawyer who files a claim on the alleged death of his runaway daughter (possibly the victim of a Charles Manson-like sex-cult guru), but disappears before he can collect.
