1 Rayford, Julian Lee Child of the Snapping Turtle: Mike Fink
New York Abelard Press (c.1951) First Edition Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good dj
[solid/square copy, a bit of shelfwear, mild toning to page edges; jacket chipped along top/bottom edges, some paper loss from chipping at head of spine, also along top of rear panel; mild smudging on front panel]. "Mike Fink could outfight, outhop, outjump, outswim--and he could outlove--any man on any side of the rivers from Pittsburgh and New Orleans, back to St. Louis and all points in between. Of the great pioneers and frontiersmen, real men whose names have become legendary, Mike Fink takes his place along with Paul Bunyan, Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett. He is best known as riverman [but] he was more than the King of keelboatmen. He started as a scout and Indian fighter when Pittsburgh was a frontier town; he was a mighty hunter and the best rifle shot of his time... [He also] is credited with a half- dozen songs and chants which are part of American folk literature."
