Lang, Monica Invitation to Tea Cleveland/New York The World Publishing Company (c.1952) First Edition Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good+ dj Illustrated by (dj) Philip Marini [nice-looking copy, top corners slightly bumped, light wear at spine extremities, old gift inscription opposite half-title page; jacket slightly edgeworn, short diagonal creasing to both flaps]. "The exciting and romantic story of a gallant Englishwoman who lived in India from the peaceful days of the early twenties to the turbulent era of World War II." The author, born in London, married a tea planter and then moved with him to India. She "landed in India with 46 pieces of luggage. Her hasty wedding in a stranger's bungalow was followed by a honeymoon trip through Indian jungles and an encounter with elephants. It was a suitable start for a life that was to encompass pythons, tigers, tropical sickness and other hazards of the jungle. Life on a tea plantation was hard and often lonely, but Monica met the loneliness with humor and the hardships with bravery." Price:
