New York G. P. Putnam's Sons (c.1969) NO First Edition Hardcover First Printing Very Good+ in Good dj Illustrated by (dj design) Neil Fujita Studio
[solid copy, page edges lightly age-toned, minor shelfwear, a bit of soiling to cloth, one-time owner's signature at top of front pastedown, minor staining to rear endpaper; first-issue jacket is NOT price-clipped, but is rated "Good" only, because of considerable surface scraping, apparently due to its having absorbed a little moisture and having temporarily stuck to an adjacent book; there is also a nearly invisible 2-inch closed tear (split) at the bottom front hinge and some horizontal wrinkling near the bottom of the rear panel (see additional comments below)]. The basis for two of the signature movies of the 1970s, and a novel whose shadow has, in one way or another, fallen over nearly every pop-culture depiction of the gangster since its publication. (All points are present for the true first edition/first printing,) Despite the "moisture" comment in my description of the jacket's physical condition, it cannot be considered "water-damaged." I believe that the jacket is a good candidate for a modest restoration effort, but in any event the price of the book reflects the jacket's currently less-than-stellar condition.
