The author's first full-length published book, which he claims, title notwithstanding, "has no connection with geology. None. Note that the titleword is a compound with equal stress on both constituents. It would, therefore, be an error to place more emphasis on, say, BED than on ROCK. Or vice versa." (The book's three sections -- "birth," "copulation" and " death" -- derive from a T.S. Eliot quotation.)
