Watson, Sally To Build a Land New York Henry Holt and Company (c.1957) NO First Edition Hardcover Good+ in Very Good+ dj Illustrated by Lili Cassel [solid copy, ex-library but minimally marked as such (a single library stamp on title page), shelfworn at bottom edge, some fraying to cloth at spine ends, minor scarring to front pastedown (apparently from label removal), tiny stain at fore-edge affecting about four pages; jacket is exceptionally nice, bright and attractive, very minor soiling to rear panel, slight scrunching at top corner of front flap, small chunk missing at edge of rear flap (no loss of text)]. (line drawings) Juvenile novel centered around the founding of Israel, as it follows two Italian Jewish children from Naples, a brother and sister, "typical of the thieving, conniving, frightened ragamuffins created by war and terrorism," who with the help of an American GI are sent first to a training camp in France, "to prepare them to become citizens of Israel," and eventually to a children's camp near Tel Aviv (which is at one point attacked by Arabs). "The complex splintering of issues in the newly evolving state is made clear" by the narrative, per the jacket blurb. Price:
