World War II novel, based on an actual incident in which German prisoners (many of them U-boat commanders) being held in a Canadian POW camp had managed to set up an espionage network, and to plan a major escape. Basis for the 1970 film THE McKENZIE BREAK, directed by Lamont Johnson.
