Barks Bear Book: 33 Stories from the Forties, Barks, Carl
1 Barks, Carl Barks Bear Book: 33 Stories from the Forties
(n.p.) Editions Enfin 1979 NO First Edition Softcover Fine
[beautiful, as-new copy, with the tiniest bit of smudging on the rear cover]. Trade PB (comic book reproductions) Black-and-white reprints of 33 of Barks's non-Disney Duck comic book stories from the 1940s. The majority of the stories are Barney Bear & Benny Burro adventures, reprinted from 1943-1947 issues of "Our Gang" comics; there is one tale each featuring Andy Panda and Porky Pig, and two starring Happy Hound (better known as Droopy), both centering around the phlegmatic pooch's dogged pursuit of an escaped convict, a situation familiar to aficionados of Tex Avery's MGM cartoons.

(cartoon illustrations) Disney's preliminary sketches for the various characters in his landmark 1937 animated feature. "This edition is a reproduction of the original Sketchbook of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs published in England by William Collins in 1938. The Lovers' Keepsake, Peynet, Raymond
3 Peynet, Raymond The Lovers' Keepsake
London Perpetua Books 1958 NO First Edition Hardcover Near Fine
(laminated pictorial boards; no dust jacket) [just a slight bump and a touch of wear to base of spine, otherwise nice and clean, virtually as new]. (cartoon illustrations, B&W photo of author) Charming cartoons featuring the artist's iconic figures of young lovers, his stock in trade from the 1940s onward. "Les Amoureux de Peynet" were recognized around the world, appearing in magazines, on advertising posters, record album covers, postcards, wine labels, postage stamps, etc. Also produced were a series of Peynet dolls, which sold by the millions; the presentation of a set of these dolls to Queen Elizabeth (for Princess Anne) Princess Margaret during her 1957 visit to France -- an event referred to in the one-page biographical introduction to this book -- helped to fuel a vogue for Peynet's work in England during the 1950s, with five books (of which this was the fourth) published by Perpetua between 1954 and 1959. This is an exceptionally nice copy of a book that does not, as a rule, wear well.
