Amory, Cleveland  The Last Resorts New York Harper & Brothers (c.1952) First Edition Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good+ dj Illustrated by (dj/drawings) Mircea Vasiliu (price-clipped) [nice attractive copy, bottom corners bumped but otherwise very little wear, faint dampstain on top and bottom edges close to spine, but with only the slightest (very faint) bleed-through onto pages; jacket shows a little wear at extremities, some browning to spine and slight chipping at top of spine, a couple of insignificant edge-tears in rear panel]. (line drawings, B&W photographs) An "expose of this country's great social glamour spots. Here, from coast to coast, are all the fabulous Society playgrounds, with all their riches and romances, belles and grandes dames, fashions and feuds, scandals and skeletons. [It's] a story of the 'right' people as well as the 'right' places": The Berkshires, Southampton, Newport, Bar Harbor, Palm Beach, Saratoga Springs, etc. The jacket blurb mentions the Astors, the Vanderbilts, the Whitneys, the Morgans, the Rockefellers, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor -- you get the picture -- and also makes a point of noting that the book contains "some 3,000 carefully indexed names."
