 1. Baum, L. Frank  Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz
Chicago The Reilly & Lee Co. [ca. 1921] (c.1908) Later Printing (see description) Hardcover Very Good Illustrated by John R. Neill
(dark green cloth, paste-on pictorial label on front cover; no dust jacket) [solid copy, moderate wear, light bumping/fraying at all corners, some soiling to front-cover label, child's name written in on "This Book Belongs To" page; occasional smudging on a few pages, color frontispiece and all color plates in excellent condition]. (16 color plates, b&w illus., illus. endpapers) This printing is from the early 1920s, with the various post-1916 points as noted in Greene & Hanff: the elimination of the half-title page (and publisher's advertisement on verso of same) and the picture of Ozma at the end of the book. This copy carries no advertisement, hence is impossible to date more precisely. Both the title page and spine carry the Reilly & Lee imprint; the 16 color plates are all present, but with the reset captions in blue (also indicating 1920 or later). In this printing, two of the color plates are bound in backwards (the one that's supposed to be facing page 122 faces page 125; the one that's supposed to be facing page 252 faces page 255). [Greene & Hanff (IV); ref. Bibliographia Oziana, revised & enlarged ed., 1988, pp.55-56].

 2. Baum, L. Frank  The Land of Oz
Chicago The Reilly & Lee Co. 1939 (c.1904) Popular Edition Hardcover Good+ Illustrated by John R. Neill
(green cloth spine, paper-covered boards, no dust jacket) [a serviceable copy; worn at edges and corners, especially to top and bottom edges (boards fully exposed), a few small stains on fore-edge, rubbing/scratching to both covers although the front-cover illustration is still fairly attractive; hinges a little weak, but no separation]. (B&W illustrations) The first sequel to the original "Wizard of Oz," orginally published as "The Marvelous Land of Oz" 1904, although the title was shortened for most later editions. This was the second of two major "Popular Edition" issues (the first was in 1925), and had a then-new cover design. [Greene & Hanff (II); ref. Bibliographia Oziana, revised & enlarged ed., 1988, p.49]

 3. Baum, L. Frank  The Marvelous Land of Oz [Soviet edition, in English]
Moscow Raduga Publishers 1986 Unknown ed Hardcover Good
(pictorial cover, no dust jacket) [rear hinge split, some wear to bottom edge, all corners bumped]. (color drawings) The text of the story itself is in English, although all the publication data (and a 15-page introduction) is in Russian, so I'm not quite sure what to make of it -- whether it's a pirated edition, or just what. The illustrations are odd yet charming. For the Baum/Oz completist.

 4. Baum, L. Frank  The Patchwork Girl of Oz
Chicago The Reilly & Lee Co. (c.1913) Later Printing (see description) Hardcover Good Illustrated by John R. Neill
(blue illustrated cloth, stamped with red/yellow/black; no dust jacket) [worn copy but with a solid binding, boards exposed at bottom corners, some light fading/spotting to spine cloth, rubbing to front cover; children's names in pencil on "This book belongs to" page, with additional pencilled gift inscription (in child's hand) on verso of color frontispiece ]. (color and B&W illus., color endpapers) Probably a mid-1920s printing. Greene & Hanff state that "copies without advertisements on the verso of the half-title page (which are probably still later [than 1923]) have the Woozy [on the spine] in red and black." This copy, indeed, does not have the advertisement on the verso of the half-title, although it DOES have the five pages of publisher's synopses (for five of the earlier books in the series) in the back of the book, without the announcement on page [343] (omitted from all Reilly & Lee imprints, per G&H); and the Woozy on the spine is in red and black. Sorry, I have to lie down -- I've got a bibliographically-induced headache. [Greene & Hanff (VII), Bibliographia Oziana, revised & enlarged ed., 1988, pp.63-66].
