Fast, Howard The Last Frontier New York Duell, Sloan & Pearce 1941 3rd printing Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good- dj [solid copy, moderate shelfwear to bottom edge, internally clean; jacket edgeworn, small tears/slight paper loss at several corners, 1-1/4" tear at bottom rear hinge, a little paper loss at top of spine (affecting "The" in title), general surface wear]. (endpaper maps) Fictionalized treatment of the 1878 trek of a remnant of the Cheyenne Indian tribe from Indian Territory (later Oklahoma) back to their home in the Black Hills of Wyoming. The same events were later fictionaliz ed by Mari Sandoz in her 1953 book "Cheyenne Autumn," which in turn served as the basis for John Ford's 1964 film of the same name. Novel about a veteran foreign correspondent who is "plunged into the McCarthy madness, stripped of his career, abandoned by friends and colleagues, and railroaded into jail by a congressional committee."
