(no dust jacket) [minor shelfwear]. Bound copy of a seminar study, "Submitted in Partial Satisfaction of the Departments for the Degree of Master of Arts in Education in the Graduate Division of the University of California, September, 1950." The author states that "in this study an attempt was made to discover which of two methods of instruction, the use of educational motion pictures or discussion sections, would bring about a greater change in students' attitudes toward Democracy, Patriotism, and the Constitution of the United States. One group, the experimental group, was given instruction by means of motion pictures, and the other, the control group, carried on discussions based upon prepared reading materials containing content similar to that of the films." The study was conducted with junior high and high school students in the Modesto, California, public schools. Personally, I find this study at least as interesting for what it says about the examiner's (and by extension the entire educational system's) Cold War-era focus on "improvement of attitudes." All together, class -- can you say "indoctrination"? 108 pages + appendices.
