[book very slightly bowed, otherwise a nice tight clean copy; jacket ditto, with minor wrinkling at base of spine]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the title page. Her first novel "depicts with astonishing clarity a near-future world resonant with the past. In New York City, big bands play swing on the radio live from hotel ballrooms, and television commercials offer condominiums in space. Acid rain falls on decaying skyscrapers and elevated trains. Civil-defense klaxons wail in the night, as poisonous water slowly engulfs the city." The protagonist, a woman, is "a brilliant young architect and the only child of a broken interracial marriage [who] lives in a loft near the dangerous waterfront," and falls in with a German-American artist who had been missing and presumed dead for many years. [The jacket art is reminiscent of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" -- too much so to be a coincidence, I think.] Signed by Author
