[good solid copy, faint dampstain on top edge (with very light bleeding into top of a few dozen pages), some mild spotting/scuffing to front cover, very faint dampstain at top of rear cover; quite a nice example of the easily-worn (and in any case rather scarce) dust jacket, with just a couple of tiny tears and a very shallow chip at top of spine (no text affected)]. The first of the popular composer's several memoirs, this one with a great deal about his childhood in Mason City, Iowa -- which of course served as the primary model for " River City" in "The Music Man." [This copy is a 1948 printing (date on title page), but lacks the "First Edition" statement, and is thus a slightly "later printing," as noted.] The front cover of the book itself bears a small caricature of the author, by Disney artist T. Hee, embossed in silver (identical to the lower illustration on the dust jacket).
