(no dust jacket) [ex-rental library book (The Guild Library, Hollywood, Calif.), stamping on both endpapers and a large number of dates in pencil on rear endpaper, very beat-up, with extensive wear at all edges, some loss of cloth at spine ends, soiling to covers, scarring/jacket flap remnants on both pastedowns, etc.; it's a reading copy, and no more, but at least the hinges are intact]. Lacking a jacket blub, the best I can tell you about this book is that it seems to center around the uncomfortable relationship between a young married woman, Jennifer, and her in-laws -- specifically Sir Charles Brandreth and his four sons (one, of course, being Jennifer's husband David). Joy Baines was a British novelist whose earlier book, "Wife to Hugo," was thought by the New York Times reviewer to have been "well planned and written with intelligence, candor and charm"; for whatever reason, though, the Times didn't see fit to review "Seventh Sin," so I'm a little in the dark, and I'm not about to read it just so I can sell it to you for ten bucks.
