[nice clean copy, very light shelfwear, one-time owner's rubber-stamped signature on half-title page; jacket shows minor wear along top edge, light rubbing]. The first in-depth look at Fitzgerald's "last years in the movie capital [which] were marred by alcoholic outbursts, fights with producers, wild trips to the East Coast, insomnia, and ill health." The author was the first to gain access to the various scripts (many unproduced) that Fitzgerald had worked on for M-G-M, and he supplemented his examination of these texts with interviews with many of the writer's friends and colleagues, including Helen Hayes, Anita Loos, Frances and Albert Hackett, Groucho Marx and Joseph L. Mankiewicz. (NOTE that despite being a book club issue, this volume has exactly the same weight and feel as the first edition.)
