[a tight, clean copy with just a few traces of handling wear]. Trade PB (B&W photograph, facsimiles) "Thrilling Stories of the Pioneer U.S. Government Airmail Service," promises the cover blurb, and it certainly provides that -- but this history of the U.S. Air Mail Service, covering its early glory years (1918-1934) is just as much about the stamps as about the airplanes. In fact, over half the book's illustrations are not of planes or intrepid pilots, but are reproductions of envelopes -- postmarked, sometimes decorated (with graphics or commemorations of historic flights), and of course always bearing Air Mail stamps. (Not surprising at all to note that this was issued by the same publisher who puts out "Linn's Stamp News" and the Scott stamp albums and catalogs.)
