The Jewish-American author's sixth book, a collection of ten short stories previously published in The New Yorker, Story Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, The New Masses and other periodicals. Zugsmith, a leftist journalist, wrote a number of proletarian novels during the late 1920s and 1930s. (The ownership signature is that of "Mae Huettig," presumably the same woman who wrote one of the earliest academic analyses of the movie business, "Economic Control of the Motion Picture Industry: A Study in Industrial Organization," published in 1944.)
