[nice clean book with just the faintest hint of wear at the extremities, vintage bookseller's label (Newbegins, San Francisco) on rear pastedown; jacket has a handful of tiny closed tears, shallow chipping and slight dog-earing at top of spine, light soiling to rear panel]. The jacket blurb informs us that "when Eleanor Porter, author of the beloved Pollyanna, died [in 1920] she left as part of her legacy to the public about a hundred short stories which had never appeared between the covers of a book." These were published in a series of collections beginning with "Money, Love and Kate" in 1923, of which the present volume was the fifth and last, "composed of the last and the best of these short stories, and the best having been kept for the last with the idea of climactic effect."
