[solid copy with light shelfwear, minor age-toning to page edges, vintage bookplate (Boys "K" Club Press) on front pastedown; jacket is heavily worn, with old tape repairs, paper loss at spine ends, creasing, soiling, etc. (NOTE that the jacket is from the A.L. Burt reissue)]. Mystery novel with a horror/supernatural hook, written by Woodrow Wilson's ex-secretary, with its inspiration attributed to "the War President's well known passion for mystery novels." Likened to Conan Doyle's "The Hound of the Baskervilles," in that the grisly "werewolf" murders that plague a family for generations turn out to have a logical, non-supernatural explanation. NOTE that the dust jacket on this copy is from the A.L. Burt reprint edition, although it's a perfect fit.
