[tiny smudge on top edge of text block and just the slightest trace of fading to cloth at top edge, otherwise a flawless book; the jacket is in perfect, as-new condition, having had the good fortune to spend most of its life enclosed and protected by a second copy of the jacket (which is also quite nice, with just one itsy-bitsy chip at the top of the front panel)]. Comprised of eleven autobiographical pieces ("Memories") and ten short stories, this was the last published book by this renowned children's author and illustrator (1909-1968), who also wrote a great deal of short fiction for adult readers, which appeared in The New Yorker and other magazines. Two of Enright's books were Newbury award winners ("Thimble Summer," 1939, and "Gone-Away Lake," 1958), and over the course of her career six of her stories were chosen for inclusion in the annual O. Henry Prize Stories anthologies -- including "The Eclipse," contained in this volume, oddly, in the "Memories" section.
