(no dust jacket) [solid copy, light dust-soiling to top edge, bumping and slight exposure of board at bottom front corner, spine cloth a little darkened]. Per a contemporary ad for this "new and somewhat disturbing" book, it deals with "the problem of the unmarried mother as seen through the eyes of a social worker," and poses the following questions: "What shall the present day woman have for her standards, since the old standards have been swept away? Shall she go out in search of happiness and adventure, or stay at home in cotton wool? Shall she live the same life as a man; can she handle herself in this new order?" The narrator on page 1 acknowledges that she is "a woman of fifty-one," and that when she writes in her book of "young people," she speaks "not of the sons and daughters of strangers, but of those who are dearest to me -- my own."
