[light shelfwear, binding slightly shaken; jacket shows a touch of wear along bottom edge, mild sun-browning to spine]. (B&W photographs) INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the ffep by the legendary actor, to the equally legendary M-G-M makeup wizard William Tuttle: "For the dreaded / 'William' / who tried to make / me look human back / in 1934 and failed -- / but then he couldn't / do it now either! / Love / David / Nov. 1975." (The book also bears Tuttle's stamped ownership signature on the front pastedown.) The first of Niven's two memoirs. The 1934 reference in the inscription, if that's an accurate date, would need some deeper research to run down; Tuttle at that time was an apprentice makeup man, just starting out at M-G-M, where he would spend most of his career, and Niven's career still consisted mostly of small bits and extra roles. (He did work in several pictures at M-G-M about that time, though, including MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY.) Signed by Author
