[book in very nice condition except for small stain at lower corner of rear cover (bleed-through fromt stain on jacket), a couple of slightly ragged page edges near end of book (result of page being carelessly cut); jacket is colorful and attractive, blemished only by the small stain at bottom corner of rear panel and some spotting to the rear panel, and some light edgewear elsewhere]. "Laurie Ferrier romantically marries a pretty Italian peasant and suddenly finds himself with a fine lady for a wife. At first her unexpected airs amuse him, then they puzzle him, and at last he grows angry. Craftily highhanded, he lures Modesta back to her native village and there takes a revenge which is as unexpected as it is humorous and efficacious." (The English title of the novel was "Petruchio," which makes a little more explicit that it's somewhat of a riff on "The Taming of the Shrew.")
