[lovely book with no discernible wear, as close to "as new" as an 86-year-old book can be; jacket is similarly unblemished except for one small closed tear and associated crease at bottom of rear panel, and an old penciled price at the top corner of the rear flap]. The author's second novel, following up the notable success of her first, "Gallows' Orchard." Set in contemporary New York City, the book concerns the struggles of an aspiring artist, and attempts "to visualize emotionally the feelings of one who is unsuited to life," whatever that means. It might be worth noting that Miss Spencer was the wife of the publisher, Harrison Smith (not that there's anything wrong with that, as they say), and that she subsequently turned out just one more novel, "The Island," in 1935 (published by Smith and Haas).
