[a little deterioration (about 1/2" exposure of board) at bottom edge of front cover, no other significant wear (a review copy, with original publisher's slip laid in); jacket spine completely faded to unreadability, a couple of small scuff marks on front panel]. (B&W photographs) Musical about a spinsterish New York secretary who finds bittersweet romance while on vacation in Venice; based on Laurents's 1952 play "The Time of the Cuckoo," which was adapted into David Lean's 1955 film SUMMERTIME, starring Katharine Hepburn. Although receiving mixed reviews, the original Broadway production ran for a respectable 220 performances and was nominated for three Tony Awards. (NOTE that the book contains the lyrics and the dialogue, but not the actual music, as was typical with Random House published musical plays.) Quite uncommon.
