(pictorial paper-covered boards; no dust jacket) [good sound copy, but with heavy edgewear to covers, small stain on front board, commercial bookplate affixed to ffep (but with no name written in)]. (color illustrations) An uncommon foray into children's literature by the noted photographer, this tale originated as a story he made up for his two young daughters "who wanted to listen to fairy tales. Since he couldn't remember any, he invented a tiny creature named Piccoli. He pretended she was living right with the family and they had the most exciting adventures." Illustrator Paul Julian was a noted muralist in the WPA era, but later primarily worked as a background artist and sometimes voice actor in animated cartoons for Warner Bros. and UPA Productions. (He provided the vocal effects for the Road Runner -- "Meep meep!")
