(price-clipped) [light shelfwear to book, a bit of age-toning to edges of text block; jacket lightly soiled, a bit faded at spine, 1-inch chip at top of front panel]. (B&W photographs) Popular history of the movies by a popular magazine-feature writer; an early entry in the nostalgia-for-Hollywood's-Golden-Age genre. Although the author claims in her acknowledgments that she couldn't possibly list all of "the many helpful and hospitable Hollywoodians who aided this project," the bulk of her contacts (and thus the majority of her text) seemed to center around M-G-M: the first three people individually singled out for thanks are Howard Strickling, Eddie Mannix, and Dore Schary. (The dust jacket design is credited to Edward Gorey, but you wouldn't be excused for not noticing -- although there is something about that lettering, and maybe he selected the photos...?)
