(no dust jacket, but fitted with a custom-cut mylar cover) [shelfworn and edgeworn, boards exposed at corners; binding is solid]. (decorations) The scarce first book by McBride, who had worked as a reporter and freelance magazine writer since the early 1920s. By the mid-1930s, she had embarked on the career as a radio host and interviewer that would soon make her a household name, as "the First Lady of Radio," and ultimately a multi-media celebrity during the 1950s, when her long-running radio presence was supplemented with a TV show and a newspaper column. (She was so popular that the celebration of her 15th anniversary on the radio, in 1949, had to be held in Yankee Stadium!)
