(no dust jacket, as issued) [nice clean, as-new book; a review copy, with the publisher's original reply slip laid in]. (B&W photographs) A sort of "greatest-hits" analysis of Cukor's career, with individual chapters devoted to: DAVID COPPERFIELD (1935); ZAZA (1939); THE PHILADELPHIA STORY (1940); ADAM'S RIB (1949); A STAR IS BORN (1954); LET'S MAKE LOVE (1960); HELLER IN PINK TIGHTS (1960); and RICH AND FAMOUS (1981). Valuable for its insights into the films that are treated in depth, but essentially it doesn't really live up to its title: Cukor's other films are treated only in passing, in brief interstitial summaries ("The Thirties," etc.), and the filmography, while complete, offers only basic credits.
