(no dust jacket) [foxing to edges of text block, spine slightly turned, spine cloth a little faded, minor bumping to lower corners; bookplate on front pastedown, previous owner's signature and date of acquisition (or possibly a non-authorial gift inscription) on ffep]. Mystery novel about a private detective who's called on to investigate the death a renowned cellist's beautiful wife, who has died under mysterious circumstances while recuperating from "nervous stomach trouble" at a sanitarium. The author cranked out four mysteries in a spurt from 1932 to 1935 (this one being the third), but spent most of the remainder of her professional career as a staff writer and book reviewer at The Saturday Review. (Her only additional mystery novel, "Death Listened In," was published by Phoenix Press in 1946.)
