[minor bumping to lower extremities; light surface wear to jacket]. (B&W photographs, color reproductions) Spanish-language encyclopedia of the American film noir, with entries for both individual figures and notable films. Even if you don't read Spanish, there's a great deal of pleasure to be derived from the illustrations in this volume -- many of which are black-and-white stills (as you might expect), but also included are numerous reproductions, mostly in color, of vintage posters and lobby cards. The author works from a slightly more expansive definition of the genre (if it is a genre) than many books on the topic, encompassing films as early as 1930 (THE BIG HOUSE, LITTLE CAESAR, and THE DOORWAY TO HELL) and wrapping up with Samuel Fuller's UNDERWORLD U.S.A. (1961). (No quibbles from me on the latter choice.) ****NOTE that additional shipping fees will be requested for international shipping of this heavy book, or for Priority Mail service to U.S. destinations.
